The surgeon's team is working to find operating room space available before the end of May to schedule my surgery. I have requested the "breast conservation" procedure, which is a removal of the tumor and surrounding tissue but not the entire breast. Success rates are exactly the same for the partial-procedure vs mastectomy for conditions that match mine. My surgeon suggests that with radiation (20 treatments) plus chemotherapy (if advised by a full biopsy of the tumor post-surgery) the probability of success is high. We will also follow up with immunotherapy and a hormone-blocking medication protocol.
My anxiety remains high, probably due to the anticipation of surgery dropping into my calendar any day. I am hopeful that it feels better once I have an actual date. I need/want forward momentum.

I sing to use the Waiting
My bonnet but to tie,
And close the door unto my house
No more to do have I
'Till his best step approaching,
We journey to the day,
And tell each other how we sung
To keep the dark away.
~ Emily Dickinson
